Continuing Medical Education
EM Faculty have made important contributions to peer education, through courses such as ACLS, ATLS, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound. Past distributed lectures have been given through the Office of Professional and Educational Development (OPED).
On a regular basis, our members regularly strive to enhance knowledge in their areas of interest. Activities include pursuit of additional training in Simulation (Harvard; RCPSC), Medical education (Dundee), Point-of-Care Ultrasound, Leadership initiatives (PLMP, APLMP, Memorial University), and Clinical Epidemiology. Members regularly attend local, national, and international conferences leading educational events, presenting their research, and participating in leadership activities. Faculty have developed local curriculum relating to simulation, procedural training, and PoCUS.
In the recent past, the Discipline of EM has provided support enabling faculty and learners to pursue CME including: CAEP Geriatric EM course, CAEP Disaster Preparedness Course, Can PoCUS Advanced course, and the RCPSC SET course.
For the past several years (accounting for CoVID interruptions), several of our faculty have very successfully executed a two-day Emergency Medicine Refresher conference targeted at rural & acute primary care practitioners (most recently May 2024). Topics have included toxicology, trauma, PoCUS, ophthalmology, ECG review, simulation, procedures, and stroke care, among others.
