Tanweer Azher is an Associate Professor at Memorial University. He completed post-graduate training in Respirology/Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine in Ireland. He joined Memorial University in September 2003. In addition to teaching and clinical engagement he is actively involved in respiratory research and is a member of the Canadian Respiratory Research Network. He served as the Divisional Chief of Respirology from 2012 to 2022. He is the current Director of the Provincial Sleep Lab at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.

Research Summary:

As a collaborative researcher he has obtained CIHR grants to complete projects regarding COPD, Asthma and Sleep Apnea. He was recently involved in a landmark study of undiagnosed COPD and asthma in Canada recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. He actively participated in therapeutic studies in COVID infection in Canada. His current research focus is COPD, Asthma and Bronchiectasis including the study of new therapeutic options. Dr. Azher currently works as the undergraduate and post-graduate clinical lead for organization and coordination of respiratory teaching at Memorial University.
