Dr. Peter Daley

Peter Daley is a clinician and researcher in Infectious Diseases. His primary focus is clinical trials of antibacterial and antiviral treatment, with additional research activity in diagnostic testing for infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship and the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases. His training is Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Medical Microbiology, Clinical Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine.    

Peter began his research career in tuberculosis, working in India at the Christian Medical College Vellore. He published studies in tuberculosis diagnosis, resistance and treatment.

Since 2010 he has worked at Memorial University in clinical and laboratory medicine, contributing to national development including the Royal College of Physicians, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Canada, and Canada's Drug Agency. He was awarded the Memorial University Faculty of Medicine Junior Faculty Award for outstanding research excellence. He supervises graduate students in Clinical Epidemiology. 

Ongoing topics of clinical trials include Clostridioides difficile, Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, Gram Negative bacteremia, community acquired pneumonia, COVID-19, influenza, novel vaccines, asymptomatic bacteriuria. Areas of observational research include Hepatitis C, mumps, antimicrobial use, endocarditis, HIV, Haemophilus influenzae, and beta-hemolytic Streptococci.

He is co-investigator on multiple national research and training grants totaling over $85 million since 2020. His faculty profile provides more detailed information relating to his research and publications.
