Neurology
Undergraduate Medical Program
Pre-Clerkship (Years 1-2)
Medical students learn Neurology through a structured curriculum including didactic teaching, small group and interactive learning, and clinical skills sessions. Neurology staff and residents are frequently involved in the education of medical students, particularly as it pertains to small group clinical skills sessions and OSCEs.
Clerkship (Years 3-4)
Clerks are invited to do selectives and electives in Neurology. Under the supervision of faculty and residents, medical students gain a broad range of experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Clerks typically spend half of their time doing clinics and the other half on the acute ward service or consultation service. They are also invited to participate in call with a resident and the academic activities of the Division of Neurology and the Department of Medicine.
MUN Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN)
The MUN Student Interest Group in Neurology is run by medical students who are passionate about neurology. Throughout the year, the MUN SIGN Executive organize events to foster interest in neurology among their colleagues, provide opportunities for learners to obtain residency and career advice, and to network with people in the field. Neurology residents are frequently invited to events to achieve these goals, including Neurology Clinical Skills Night and CaRMS and Career Planning Sessions. They also organize participation in community engagement through local support groups, such as an Epilepsy Outreach event.
Medical Student Electives
The Division of Neurology offers two- and four-week electives and selectives to medical students at Memorial University and across Canada.
