Awards
The Discipline of Medicine holds an annual Scholarship Day in December where Residents are recognized for their research projects. This is an opportunity for Residents to present their work and compete for the following awards:
- Dr. Patrick Parfrey Outstanding Oral Presentation Award
- Excellence in Medical Education Scholarship
- Excellence in Health Outcomes Research
- Excellence in Basic Science Fundamental Research
- Excellence in Population Research
Resident teaching awards are given out at the end of each academic year and include the following awards
- Dr. John Simpson Memorial Award
This award is a tribute to Dr. Simpson, a former internist at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital who passed in 1998 at the age of 46. - Dean David Hawkins Award for Resident Teaching
This award has been established through a generous gift from Dr. Annette Felix and contributions from colleagues and friends of the late Dr. David Hawkins, rheumatologist and third dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University. - Dr. Missan Postgraduate Cardiology Scholarship in Medicine
This award has been established through generous gifts from Merck, as well as colleagues, friends and family of the late Dr. Sarab Missan, a well-known cardiologist in St. John's.
