In the 1990s, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics periodically held an event at the Avalon Mall in St. John's known as Math in the Mall. Faculty and students gathered to present exhibits which promoted math to the general public -- and especially to children -- in fun, interesting and educational ways.

This tradition was revived in 2005 and was expanded in 2006 to become Science in the Mall, as other members of the Faculty of Science joined the Department to present what will hopefully become an annual event.
