Research
Faculty members in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Memorial University have a broad range of research expertise stretching across national, cultural, geographical, linguistic, and chronological boundaries. We have specific strengths in the national literatures of French, German and Spanish speaking countries, in cultural, visual and memory Studies, in cinema studies, as well as in literary translation and the acquisition of second languages, including Irish-Gaelic, Italian, and Japanese. Our department is particularly well positioned to focus on inter-, trans-, and multicultural studies, including colonialism, genocide, comparative and ethnological literatures, literary and cultural theory, as well as children’s literature, women’s literature, and propaganda.
