Michaela Doucette
Indigenous Archivist
Michaela Doucette, MAS (FNCC) (she/her), is of Mi’kmaq and French (Acadian) ancestry from the Port au Port Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland. She is the Indigenous Archivist for Memorial University Libraries and is based at the Archives & Special Collections, QEII Library, on the St. John’s Campus.
Michaela received her Master's of Archival Studies with a First Nations Curriculum Concentration from the University of British Columbia in 2021. This concentration allowed her to focus her studies and research on decolonizing and Indigenizing traditional archival practices and formulate ways in which archival institutions can serve Indigenous communities and work towards reconciliation aims. Michaela is passionate about dismantling the colonial barriers of archival institutions and working with Indigenous communities to accurately represent Indigenous history and culture within the archival and historical record.
