Per-Course Appointment Opportunity

 

The School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies at the Labrador Campus of Memorial University invites applications from individuals interested in teaching the following in-person, 3 credit hour undergraduate course in the Bachelor of Arctic and Subarctic Interdisciplinary Studies (BASIS) program in the Winter 2026 semester.  

Subject to budgetary restrictions and sufficient enrolments, appointments will be made on a course-by-course basis and will not entail any obligation to conduct research or to perform any administrative service for Memorial University. Appointments will be made in accordance with the provisions in the MUN-LUMUN Collective Agreement. Course design and evaluation methods for all courses will be in accordance with the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies regulations and the Memorial University Calendar.

Course Title: SASS 1004 Peoples of the Circumpolar North 

Course Schedule: Winter 2026 (6 weeks) January 6, 2026 – February 13, 2026 (days/times to be determined)

Campus Location: Labrador Campus of Memorial University, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL

 

Course Description: Peoples of the Circumpolar North introduces participants to the contemporary and traditional cultures, places, and societies of the Circumpolar world through interdisciplinary studies of Indigenous and Western knowledges of the North. Participants will engage with local and academic data that highlights continuity and transformation within the cultures, histories, and societies of the North, including peoples' adaptation to climate change, industrialization, and self-determination.

 

Qualifications: Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s degree with a proven record of instructing in the humanities and social sciences at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to individuals who have lived experience in a northern context, have taught in humanities and social sciences, who conduct research in the circumpolar, and who have relationships and connections with circumpolar partners.

Salary: As per the MUN-LUMUN Collective Agreement
