The ISER Logo

During the winter of 1990 a competition was held "seeking a logo that is representative of the institute and is suitable for reproduction on books, reports, papers, flyers." The deadline for submissions was January 31, 1991.

After thirty years of operation, an official logo to represent the institute was adopted during the summer of 1991. The winning logo was designed by William Griffin, a graphic artist in the Faculty of Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Mr. Griffin's logo represents the land and the sea, both intertwined and inseparable. The house symbolizes the community and the lighted window conveys that the community is alive.
