Social Innovation
Centre for Social Enterprise (CSE)
The CSE promotes and supports social enterprise and social innovation by using existing resources at Memorial to assist existing social enterprises, create new ones, and promote social enterprise education. It is a unique partnership between the Faculty of Business Administration, the School of Social Work, and the School of Music. The CSE supports teaching and learning in social enterprise, such as the MBA in social enterprise and entrepreneurship; offers paid placements to undergraduate and graduate students to work in local social enterprises; and provides funding for undergraduate students to investigate social enterprise or related community-driven initiatives as part of a course project. In October 2020, Memorial launched Newfoundland and Labrador’s first incubator for businesses that focus on social impact. The CSE Social Ventures Incubator is housed at the Faculty of Business Administration and provides space and funding for students who are developing enterprises with a strong focus on social, environmental or cultural value in addition to growth and profit.
