Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove is a picturesque town and historic fishing village of approximately 950 people located on the eastern shore of the Avalon Peninsula in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is nestled deep in the heart of Motion Bay, just south of St. John's. The town is approximately 200 years old although it has been used as a fishing harbour since the 1500s. Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove is the site of the first hydroelectric generating station (Petty Harbour Generating Station) in the province and has also been the location for several movies, films and television shows. The fishery continues to play a major role in Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove. A wide variety of species are caught today including caplin, cod, crab, herring, lump fish, lobster, mackerel, mussels, squid and whelk.
