In 1987 a local high school English teacher named Pearce Dwyer wrote a song entitled “The Immigrant.” Jim McGrath’s rendition of this song was performed outdoors at the Tilting Festival in 2007. This was a particularly special year for the festival as it also marked a Come Home Year for the town. Such celebrations not only help bring people together, but they also ensure that the community’s shared culture and traditions can be passed down to younger generations.
