Quirpon - Handicrafts
Lloyd Young of Quirpon describes himself as a 'crafty' person. Ever since the moratorium on cod, when he retired from his life as a fisherman, he has been making model boats and airplanes out of wood. He also makes painted wood carvings of boat engines and motors. These crafts are an important aspect of his life, as they are a reflection of his identiy.
The same is true of Lloyd's wife Joyce. She engages in craft as both a knitter and quilter. While she makes an array of textile objects, her specialty is the hand painted Newfoundland Quilt. She speaks of their life in Quirpon, as well as the various aspects of her quilting and knitting skills.
