I have nothing but praise for the HSS Film Unit! It has been a key
partner in several of my projects since a came to MUN as a Canada
Research Chair in Aboriginal Studies. In association with the Unit me
and my associates fully produced two documentary films (The People of NunatuKavut and Atiku-Napeu: The Caribou Man) and with its support I also contributed to the production of the documentary Anuhu Yrmo in Paraguay. The equipment and the know-how lent to these projects was superb and the supervision and assistance of the Unit's director invaluable. If you want to use film for your knowledge mobilization but are concerned that you lack the skills, this is the place to start, you will see your vision coming to fruition!

The Innu Language project has been most grateful for the unfailingly
helpful assistance provided by Derek Norman at the FHSS Film Unit, formerly the Digital Research Centre for Qualitative Field Work. We have used the facilities for several projects, including the Innu-aimun Dictionary, the largest of an Indigenous language in North America to date. More recently, we have made extensive use of the slide, negative and photo scanning facilities to digitize thousands of images collected by renowned anthropologist Jean Briggs during her field work in Nunavut. Her photos of traditional Inuit life, dating from the mid-1960s, document a way of life that has largely vanished.
