Dr. Patrick Mannion, who has been teaching as a Sessional Instructor in the History Department since 2014, will be leaving MUN this September to begin a SSHRC-funded postdoctoral position at Boston College. Dr. Mannion, whose research specialty is Irish ethnicity and identity in Newfoundland, the Maritimes, and New England, will be comparing the Irish-Canadian and Irish-American nationalist networks of the Ancient Order of Hibernians – North America’s foremost Irish ethnic association in the early-twentieth century. In Boston, Patrick will be working with Dr. Kevin Kenny, a prominent historian of Irish America, and his project is titled “The Construction of Irish Ethnicity in North America: The Ancient Order of Hibernians, 1875-1925.”
