New Direction

The Department of History has a new Head, Dr. Stephan Curtis.

Stephan Curtis is a social historian with multifaceted interests in medical history, urban history, science and technology, alcohol and food, family, and revolutions. The breadth of his interests is reflected in his research and in the varied courses he teaches. Dr. Curtis has a special interest for Swedish history and in his years at Memorial has been working tirelessly to raise awareness about the importance of the history of Nordic Europe. In recent years, he has brought several Swedish scholars to Newfoundland and sent many Newfoundland students to Sweden. Under his leadership, the Department is unlikely to go south.

The Department thanks Stephan Curtis for accepting to serve in this position. We look forward to working with him.

Many thanks as well to Terry Bishop-Stirling who served as Interim Head in January.
