MUN History graduate to do PhD at UNB

Kate McGregor, who graduated with a BA Honours degree in History and German at Memorial in 2017, has been accepted in the doctoral program at the University of New Brunswick.

Kate McGregor wrote her Honours essay on intercultural contacts in late medieval Hanseatic cities, focusing on the Kontors of London, Bruges, and Bergen, through an analysis of documents describing the interactions of German merchants with the local populations. Pursuing her interests for German history and intercultural contacts while extending the temporal scope of her research, she then went on to do an MA at Brock University, where she studied how German women living in the German African colonies helped their families foster a German identity through the celebration of Christmas. For her doctoral thesis, her objective is to study the experience of German women in the African colonies and their role in shaping the society, economy, and culture of the colonies.

The Department congratulates Kate McGregor for her successes!
