Power Line Hazards (WHSCC Approved)
Who should attend this course?
Power Line Hazards Certification Training is a legal requirement for operators of boom trucks, mobile cranes, and other similar aerial lift equipment. Any employee or student of Memorial University that has to conduct work in close proximity to power lines as a part of their work or study should complete this course.
Description
This is a Workplace Health and Safety Compensation Commission (WHSCC) approved course that is required by NL OH&S legislation by any employees that work in close proximity to high voltage power lines. The purpose of this training is to increase participant’s awareness of the danger associated with working near power lines and to provide information on how to prevent injury and/or death. Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to work safely near power lines by recognizing hazards and putting controls in place to prevent injury to people and property damage.
Learning Objectives:
- Employers' and workers' rights and responsibilities
- Need for training
- Power line structures
- Conductors and insulators
- The characteristics of electricity, how it travels and its effects
- What to do in the case of contact
- How to apply relevant sections of legislation
Course Duration: 4 hours
Completion requirements: 100% attendance, no exam.
Course includes: Certification on behalf of the WHSCC.
THis course is offered thought the Department Of health and SAfety based on need.
