Psychological Health and Safety
Memorial University recognizes the importance of psychological health and safety in the workplace. The physical and psychological health and safety of our faculty, staff and students is paramount. Memorial will continue to ensure well-being through healthy lifestyles and mental health supports, education and awareness training.
In 2013, the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace was released. This standard is known as CSA Standard Z1003-13 (R2018) "Psychological health and safety in the workplace - Prevention, promotion, and guidance to staged implementation." It is a voluntary set of guidelines, tools and resources to guide organizations in promoting mental health and preventing psychological harm at work. It is promotion of the idea that mental health is the foundation of well-being and effective functioning for an individual and for a community. While the national standard for psychological health and safety is voluntary, prevention of workplace violence and harassment is a requirement of Newfoundland and Labrador's occupational health and safety legislation.
