Grenfell Planned Network Outage

Updated: June 14, 2024

Campus-wide network outage and infrastructure upgrade

Grenfell Campus is planning a campus-wide network outage and infrastructure upgrade from June 15-30, 2024. The outage is required to make repairs and upgrades in relation to the cyber security incident that occurred in December 2023.

Internet (including wi-fi) will not be available on campus, including residence, during this time. Campus computers cannot be used. Campus phones will not be functional; a main campus phone number will be provided, and some key phone numbers will be forwarded.

During this time, Grenfell faculty and staff will be accessible by email.  Key services, like the Registrar’s Office, Student Housing, Conference Services/Summer Accommodations, Bursar’s Office, Library and Campus Enforcement and Patrol, will be open for in-person services, although their hours of operation may be altered for this two-week period.

Access to office computers will be disrupted. The use of any cloud-based software (including MyMUN, StarRez and Brightspace) will not be impacted.

ITS employees will be unavailable for regular duties during the two-week outage. Any inquiry must go through the Service Desk (

What services are unaffected?

While internet is required to use these services, students, faculty and staff will have access to cloud-based programs including:

  • MUN Self-Serve

  • Mifis will be available on campus for those who require it, with some access for students. Locations will be shared in the coming days.

How should I prepare for the outage?

  • During the outage, the “green network” that has been used in classrooms and some meeting rooms will be taken down. Please back up any data that has been saved to the green network P-drive or desktop to another location (e.g. OneDrive, Teams).
  • It is critical that you test any equipment they will be using during the outage, including any access to necessary software (including software that requires VPN login, such as Banner and OnBase) and laptops.  Try to anticipate any problems.
  • Talk with your dean, director, supervisor or professor about work arrangements during this two week period.
