The Major in Gender Studies is a multi-disciplinary program offered to candidates for degrees in the Bachelor of Arts. The objective of the program is to examine critically how gender shapes our identities, our social interactions and our world. Students are exposed to interdisciplinary perspectives and encouraged to develop a framework for thinking about power relations connected to gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, age and nationality. Attention is also paid to existing and emerging feminist debates and issues

Major Program of Study

The Major Program in Gender Studies consists of a minimum of 36 credit hours including:

• 6 credit hours in Gender Studies 1000 and 1005;
• 6 credit hours at the 2000 level including Gender Studies 2006;
• 12 credit hours at the 3000 level including Gender Studies 3005 or Gender Studies 3025, and Gender Studies 3008;
• 6 credit hours at the 4000 level including Gender Studies 4001; and,
• 6 additional credit hours at the 2000 level or above.

Students declaring a major in Gender Studies are expected to have completed at least 9 credit hours in Gender Studies courses at the 1000 and 2000 level before registering in courses at the 3000 level, and 3 credit hours at the 3000 level before registering in a course at the 4000 level.
