About FUSION

The nature of work is changing, and along with it, what is required to navigate the workplaces of today and tomorrow. Employers increasingly point to skills gaps among their post-grad hires—competencies that are either lacking or underdeveloped because employees have not been able to keep up with the demands of the modern labour market. And what’s more: different employers consistently highlight the same deficiencies, the same missing skills, as roadblocks to the success of their new employees.

In its first phase, FUSION at Memorial delivered skill-development opportunities to just over 150 student participants, most in their third and fourth years. After completing the skill-development curriculum, a majority noted that they wished they had encountered this type of offering earlier on in their studies (i.e., in their first or second years).

As we enter phase two of Memorial’s participation in the FUSION network, the Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is pleased to support the rollout of additional learning opportunities in more key transitional skill areas.
