Arts & Administration building, slope glazing replacement

The sloped glazing roof above the Arts and Administration building atrium constructed in 1991, is now at the end of its expected life cycle and the area has been experiencing water leaks.

The roof is being removed and replaced as part of the capital deferred renewal program.  The scope of the work includes repairs to the existing gypsum board drywall where leaks have occurred and have damaged the existing walls.

Additionally, the four stepped roofs above the main entrance to the atrium are also due for replacement and will be included in the current scope, if budget allows.

Hoarding walls have been placed in the area to provide a barrier to the ongoing work. The contractor requires access to the underside of the glass panels from the interior and as a result, will erect scaffolding from levels one to five of the atrium.

The Tim Hortons kiosk will be covered and protected by the scaffolding from the work and will remain open during the construction period. Access to classrooms, elevators and washrooms will also be maintained; however, access routes may be modified.

The contract for the work has been awarded and the project’s official start will begin when glass and materials arrive.  The project is estimated to be ongoing until Dec. 31, 2024.
