Discover Program - Fall 2024

Discover Program - Your Entrepreneurial Journey Starts Here

Thinking about diving into the entrepreneurial world? The Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP)-Discover Fall 2024 (October 1-November 30, 2024) is your perfect starting point. Whether you are a business student or NOT, this program will offer you, MUN Graduate Students, the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and help you develop the necessary skills. This ETP program is free, and certificates are provided.

The Discover program provides aspiring students a comprehensive introduction to starting and running a business. This certificate-provided ETP program has two main components: workshop modules (Theoretical lessons, self-study, online through Brightspace and asynchronous) and special topic sessions (Practical lessons, hybrid mode and synchronous).

Workshop modules: There are eight workshop modules which will be delivered every Tuesday (Starting on October 1, 2024), and you have one week (ideally) to self-study on your own time through the Bright Space, or you are required to complete all modules at the end of the program (November 30, 2024)

You'll be exploring the following areas:

  1. Ideation & Lean Canvas
  2. Research & Customer Interviews
  3. Skills Identification & Team Building
  4. Mentors & Advisors
  5. Business for New Starters
  6. Business Plans
  7. Financing
  8. Resources & Supports in Newfoundland and Labrador

Special topic sessions: Eight to nine sessions are scheduled almost at 2-3 pm every Thursday starting from October 3, 2024, in-person mode on St. John’s campus and online mode for Grenfell and Labrador Campus and Marine Institute students. These sessions will focus on breaking down the online materials learnt and doing hands-on exercises. We will also welcome guest speakers to enlighten us on particular topics throughout the semester.

Special policy: Students who cannot synchronously attend the Special Topic Sessions as required due to their recurrent study schedule conflict or taking care of their little child(ren) can apply for this policy by contacting the program coordinator at dtmaihanh@mun.ca. By obtaining this policy, eligible students are allowed to review the sessions’ recordings weekly on their own time.

One-on-one or group advice sessions and support: Those sessions are available for ETP participants and alums who need help to develop their business ideas. Additionally, they are provided and connected with relevant resources and support from the entrepreneurial ecosystem and entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Please note that besides the knowledge and invaluable experiences in entrepreneurship and business, you can add this program's certificate (the program outline is indicated there) to your resume to become a more robust job applicant for your career development.
