About
The Intelligent Systems Lab (ISL) engages in robotics and machine learning research for application domains which include ground, aerospace, marine, and mobile computing platforms. The current research at ISL are as follows:
- Evaluate adaptive estimation strategies where multiple models are used to reliably observe the behaviour of robots under changing operating conditions, i.e., micro aerial vehicles transitioning through GPS limited areas, through pre-mapped regions, and areas with changing environmental conditions such as wind gust and magnetic disturbances.
- Develop coordination and control techniques for ground and aerial robotic systems to achieve supervisory large-scale mapping and exploration.
- Develop AI-powered visual Lidar odometry and mapping pipelines for vertical take-off and lift aircraft.
Notable contributions of ISL include sensor design for relative navigation applications, detailed observability analysis of range and camera assisted state estimation problems, pack ice field detection and tracking using AI-powered laser and vision aids, optimization-based solutions for state estimation and nonlinear model predictive control of mobile robots, cooperative localization of distributed multi-robotic systems, Computationally efficient filtering for visual-inertial navigation, fuzzy discrete event system based control for robot navigation, robot perception using visual attention.
