Teaching Development Days for New Faculty

New Faculty Orientation begins with Teaching Development Days, an event designed to introduce new faculty to Memorial’s teaching culture. This in-person event combines presentations, collaborative discussions and hands-on workshops to help prepare you for the upcoming semester.

CITL is delivering Teaching Development Days for New Faculty during New Faculty Orientation for 2024/25. Teaching Development Days covers creating your syllabus, using Brightspace and revising an assessment to address generative AI. The event also includes information about connecting with CITL, and with other new faculty, for ongoing support and professional growth in Memorial’s teaching community.

During your participation in Teaching Development Days for New Faculty, you will:

  • Create course syllabi reflecting your personal teaching philosophies, student-centred learning principles and Memorial guidelines.
  • Gain proficiency in Memorial’s LMS Brightspace, allowing you to enhance students’ learning experiences.
  • Be introduced to designing effective learning activities and assessments.
  • Reflect on and begin documenting evidence of teaching effectiveness and teaching development, in support of promotion and tenure applications.
  • Build a network of faculty peers and CITL staff for ongoing support, collaboration and sharing of best practices in teaching with the Memorial community.

Teaching Development Days 2024/25 are scheduled for August 27-29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. New faculty members who attend Teaching Development Days receive a Certificate of Participation and a letter outlining their involvement.

This year's Teaching Development Days session is currently fully registered. To join the waitlist, please contact acaddevelopment@mun.ca.
