Faculty Chair Message
I would like to invite you to Memorial University’s Teaching and Learning Conference 2024 being held on the St. John’s Campus on May 1 and 2, 2024. As the conference’s faculty chair, I am excited to share and experience with you a two-day event about Putting Innovation into Practice.
The Teaching and Learning Conference 2024 is your opportunity to connect, share and learn. We must acknowledge our need for the time and space to be innovative in teaching and learning at Memorial. How can we adjust our traditional teaching approaches to serve the future needs of students? What evidence can we use to understand what changes we should make? How can we rethink assessments so that students can think critically about, and apply, what they have learned? In what ways can we better connect with each other, across disciplines and campuses, to share successful innovations in teaching and learning?
To answer these questions, the Conference will have featured presentations by visiting keynote, Dr. Awneet Sivia, associate vice-president, teaching and learning, University of the Fraser Valley; and Memorial University keynote, Dr. Jeannette Byrne, associate professor, School of Human Kinetics and Recreation. Additional highlights include three plenary sessions with representatives from across the institution that will engage participants in topics inspiring innovation through teaching and learning, student engagement and preparedness, and the impacts of AI on teaching. A selection of concurrent, peer-reviewed sessions from faculty, instructors, students and staff will also be featured in the conference program.
Please join me and your colleagues for an interesting, impactful and energetic two days of conversations and knowledge-sharing on how we are and can be innovative in teaching and learning.
