Peer Review of Teaching
The Peer Review of Teaching (PRT) process offers academic professionals an opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback on teaching practices, helping to enhance professional development and support effective, engaging learning experiences.
Benefits of PRT
- For instructors: Gain valuable insights into teaching methods, technologies and classroom strategies to better meet evolving student needs.
- For reviewers: Develop skills in observing and assessing teaching practices while contributing to a collaborative, supportive academic culture.
Participation in PRT can provide meaningful feedback for your teaching dossier—whether as a recipient or a reviewer.
Become a Reviewer
Academic staff interested in serving as peer reviewers are asked to:
- Complete a self-directed training module in Brightspace.
- Confirm completion of the Canadian Research Chairs’ Bias in Peer Review training module.
- Prepare a peer reviewer profile so instructors can connect with them directly for review opportunities.
Reviewers receive a certificate of completion after training, recognizing their role in supporting teaching excellence.
Access the Brightspace Training Module
Using CITL’s Client Support Centre, complete these steps to request access to the Peer Review of Teaching module:
- Go to www.citl.mun.ca/support.
- Log in using your MUN credentials.
- Choose Request Type: CITL > Technical Support (Brightspace/Online Rooms/etc.).
- Choose Peer Review of Teaching (Brightspace access).
- Complete the request form.
- Submit the ticket by clicking the save button.
Please allow 24 hours for your access to be granted. The module will automatically appear in your Brightspace course list.
The resources required to undertake a review are available on the Resources page.
Create your Peer Reviewer Profile
After completing the training module, you need to create your Peer Reviewer profile. This profile will be added to the list of reviewers, and potential reviewees may contact you based on the information you provide.
The Peer Reviewer Profile Form asks you to share your name, contact information, areas of content and pedagogical expertise and a brief bio. You also need to upload the Certificate of Completion you received after completing the Brightspace module.
Find a Peer Reviewer
- Academic staff members select a reviewer who matches their requirements from the list of reviewers. Details like area of content expertise, areas of pedagogical expertise and experience and a brief bio are included for each reviewer.
- Contact the reviewer directly, meet and arrange the review together. From this point, the process is carried out between instructors and reviewers.
Note: Potential reviewers do not necessarily need to be from your own or a related discipline. Outside perspectives often lead to informative feedback.
If you intend to use the results of a review for an official evaluation of your teaching, please be aware of the Procedure for Disclosing and Assessing Conflicts of Interest.
