About CITL
The Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is Memorial’s lead on the delivery of the university’s online education offerings, the use of educational technologies in teaching and learning, and the provision of educator development.
We connect students on campus, across the province, throughout the country, and around the world who want an education from Memorial and due to time or location, seek flexibility in their educational opportunities. Each semester, one in five on-campus undergraduate students complete at least one online course. There are over 475 online undergraduate and graduate courses and 37 fully or partially online programs offered from Memorial.
We work to enhance, promote and support an e-learning vision throughout Memorial and strive to provide faculties and departments with the e-learning expertise, technology and knowledge needed to progress the university's mandate. CITL is responsible for Memorial’s learning management system, Brightspace (D2L), which is used for all online and over 2,100 on-campus course sections. We are also responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of shared multimedia classrooms and teaching and meeting spaces across the St. John’s Campus.
We support Memorial’s faculty members and graduate students in the enhancement of their teaching knowledge and skills. Through development workshops and seminars, programs for the teaching development of faculty and graduate students, individual and small group consultations, and assistance with dossier preparation, CITL works to enhance Memorial’s teaching and learning.
