Copilot Chat is a generative AI tool available in Memorial’s Microsoft 365 environment. When signed in to Copilot Chat with your MUN Login account, the data you submit is automatically protected by Microsoft’s enterprise data protection. This means the data stays within Memorial’s Microsoft 365 environment.  

You must login to Copilot Chat with your MUN Login account when using Copilot Chat with university data. To confirm that you are logged in, verify that you see a shield symbol in the top-right corner of your screen. This means that prompts and responses are not saved, and Microsoft does not access the data for the purposes of training the language model. It’s a secure way to use Copilot while protecting your data and the university’s data. 

When using Copilot Chat, ensure data privacy and personal information are protected by adhering to all applicable university policies and procedures regarding privacy and protection of data.

What can I do with Copilot Chat? 

Copilot chat is designed to help with a wide range of tasks across productivity, creativity, learning, and analysis: 

Information & Research 

• Answer questions across many subjects 
• Summarize articles, documents, or websites 
• Provide citations and up-to-date info via web search 

Data & File Analysis 

• Analyze spreadsheets, CSVs, PDFs, and text files (see supported file types) 
• Generate charts, graphs, and visualizations 
• Extract, clean, and transform data 
• Handle up to 10 files at once, each up to 100 MB  

Writing & Editing 

• Draft emails, presentations, , reports, and creative writing 
• Edit and improve grammar, tone, and clarity
• Summarize key points from lengthy email threads
• Translate between languages 

Coding & Development 

• Write, debug, and explain code in many languages
• Analyze and visualize code files
• Help with algorithms, data structures, and automation 

Creativity & Design 

• Generate AI art from text prompts 
• Brainstorm answers to questions, ideas for stories, branding, etc. 
• Productivity Support Help plan projects, schedules, and to-do lists 
• Manage project tasks, timelines, and collaborative documents 
• Create templates, summaries, and presentations 
• Generate meeting summaries, action items, and follow up communications

Service information  

• Multi-factor authentication is required. Set up Microsoft 365 sign-in for multi-factor authentication. 
• Upload file size limit is 100MB and you can upload up to 10 files for analysis at one time.
• Access to Copilot Chat will end when a user no longer meets the eligibility requirements.
• Memorial’s Microsoft 365 Terms and Conditions of Use apply to all services including Copilot Chat.
