IT Governance and Collaboration Framework

Memorial's IT Governance and Collaboration Framework is designed to ensure that significant IT decisions are made collaboratively with input from key stakeholders. IT investments that meet one of the criteria below require review through the framework and the completion of an IT Investment Proposal.

If you are unsure whether your IT investment requires a proposal and review, contact the Office of the CIO at itgc@mun.ca.

Criteria for IT investment review

  • New or upgrades to IT systems that run on Memorial's network (MUNnet). Note that this does not include MUN-managed workstations or locally-installed desktop applications.
  • New or upgrades to IT systems (hosted or cloud-based) that require integration (e.g. authentication, university data).
  • New or upgrades to IT systems that are cloud-based and used with university data.
  • New or upgrades to existing core digital infrastructure (i.e. servers, storage, networking and telecommunications equipment).
  • New buildings or renovations to existing buildings (for networking, telecommunications, audio/visual networking requirements).

IT investment decision-making

All IT investment decisions should be made in accordance with the Principles for IT Governance and Collaboration at Memorial and the IT Investment and Governance Policy.

IT investments that are reviewed through the framework are selected and prioritized according to the Procedure for Assessment and Prioritization of IT Investments.

Requests for new IT investments used for the non-administrative, intellectual conduct of research can be made using the Research IT Request process.
