Training and Research

Campus Childcare Inc. supports Memorial University by providing opportunities for observation, reasearch, training and volunteer engagement.  We work closely with the university community and local training institutions to foster hands-on learning experiences in a range of academic disciplines - while ensuring that the well-being and routines of the children in our care remain the top priority.

 Observations

As part of their academic programs, students from Memorial University and other institutions may be required to observe children in a natural play-based environment.  These general observations do not identify individual children; are conducted from dedicated observation rooms to avoid disruption to children's routines; require students to sign in at the General Office upon arrival and sign out when leaving.  Students are escorted to and from the observation rooms by staff and do not interact directly with the children during these sessions.

Research Projects

All research condcuted at the Childcare Centre must be pre-approved by the relevant university faculty, ethics board, and the Centre's Executive Director.  Additional requirements include:

  • Parents/guardians are provided with detailed project information
  • Written consent from parents is required before a child may participate
  • Researchers interacting directly with children must provide current police records checks and immunization records
  • Research activities must not interfere with the children's regular programming

Practicum Traning

Campus Childcare Inc. offers practicum placments to students from a variety of university and college programs.  All placements are approved by the Executive Director.  Students in practicum roles submit valid police record checks and immunization documentation, and are supervised by Campus Childcare Inc. staff throughout their placement.

Volunteers

We regularly welcome student volunteers from Memorial University who contribute their time, interests, and talents to support our programming.  Volunteers work alongside Early Childhood Educators to enhance learning experiences for children.  All volunteers are required to provide a valid police records check and proof of immunization.  Volunteers do not replace staff and are supervised while on site.
