Find Course Descriptions

The Memorial University Calendar is the official resource for accurate course descriptions. However, navigating a comprehensive document like the calendar to find the right information can feel daunting at first. To make it easier for you to find course descriptions, we recommend using the search function within the calendar.

Searching Within the Calendar

At the top of each page on Memorial's website, you’ll find a search bar that can help you locate specific words or phrases. You can use this search bar to find course descriptions. We recommend searching for the course code, for example, search “ENGL 4913” if you want to find more information on “Advanced Creative Writing: Nonfiction”.

However, this search will return all pages across the Memorial University network containing your search term. To narrow your search to course descriptions within the University Calendar, we recommend these steps:

  • Go to your preferred search engine, like Google, or Bing

  • You can search the entire Calendar by adding the following web address “site:mun.ca/university-calendar” to the search bar after your search term. For example, to search for the word “ocean” anywhere in the Calendar, it would look like this: ocean site:mun.ca/university-calendar

  • Putting a multi-word search term in quotation marks will search for that specific phrase. For example, to search for “ENGL 4913” anywhere in the Calendar: "ENGL 4913" site:mun.ca/university-calendar
We highly recommend using this method and searching for the course code you want more information on.

  • You can search specific sections of the Calendar by being more specific with the web address. For example, to search for the term “entrepreneurship" in the St. John’s Campus / Faculty of Business Administration section of the Calendar: entrepreneurship site:mun.ca/university-calendar/st-johns-campus/faculty-of-business-administration/

Tip: Instead of typing the web address, navigate to the section you're interested in, copy the web address from the browser address bar and paste it after “site:” into the search bar.

Another Tip: Once you’ve opened the relevant page from the search results, use your browser’s "Find on Page" feature to locate the exact course description. On Windows, press Ctrl+F; on Mac, press Command+F.

If you want more information on the course, you may want to reach out to the department or academic unit offering the course. You can find the facilitating unit’s name from our all credit courses database.
