Budget 2024/25 and beyond
Memorial University, like many universities across the country, is facing the challenges of constrained budgets, lower enrolment and increasing fixed costs.
We recognize that the last few years have been challenging for the Memorial community, yet it is clear that students, faculty, staff, pensioners and alumni—and the wider community—care deeply about Memorial and want to have a say in its future.
Strategic thought is required to envision a university that thrives in a world that is undergoing significant economic, political and societal changes. This will require both cost-cutting measures and investments to ensure the academic mission of the institution is maintained and supported as efficiently as possible.
In the coming weeks and months, we will be looking to the university community for serious and bold ideas for Memorial’s future.
We must work collaboratively to create a university that is responsive to student needs, fiscal realities, enrolment changes and the needs of the province. The end result will be a more focused, likely somewhat smaller, well-funded, culturally rich institution.
On this website, we will provide information, updates and progress to the university community.
