Special topics courses are courses offered outside of the formal course listing in the department. These courses are denoted as BIOL 49XX and often are offered as a way for instructors to trial new course themes or explore more timely issues. At times special topics courses may become 'regularized' (i.e., be listed as a course in our calendar).
