Parts list and Instruction Manual
Parts List: Template Domains –regions of the genome which code for RNAs (most of which encode for proteins)
Instruction Manual: Gene regulatory elements-docking sites for transcriptional regulatory proteins that determine when, where, and how much of each RNA (therefore protein) is expressed.
These regulatory Proteins have several domains:
A sequence-specific DNA-binding surface that can recognize correct docking site.
A surface that can interact with one or more proteins on the basal transcriptional apparatus
A surface that interacts with proteins that bind to nearby docking site- act cooperatively to regulate transcription
A surface that acts as a sensor to environmental conditions within the cell.
These domains ensure that the transcriptional regulatory proteins are correctly wired into the body’s metabolic and biochemical circuitry, which is crucial to normal cell function.
