Distribution of four genetic clades on the island of Newfoundland.

Newfoundland Caribou (Rangifer tarandus terranovae) are divided into 14 Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) [left].
Pie diagrams [right] show the relative frequencies of each of four genetic lineages (clades) A B C & D. Clade A is confined to three WMUs in the west of the Island, Clade B shows a gradient from northwest to southeast, and Clade C is absent from the southeast except on Merasheen Island (which was introduced from Buchans, in the west) The Avalon Peninsula in the extreme southeast is fixed for Clade D.
