Phylogenetic relationships among mtDNA
sequences from Newfoundland Caribou
MtDNA sequences of 2,223 bp
were obtained from 233 Caribou from 14
Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) on the
island of Newfoundland. Each WMU is a sub-population,
which are grouped into non-overlapping Herds that
make up the total island population.
The analysis is
a Bayesian Likelihood analysis that shows the
occurrence of four major genetic lineages (clades,
designated by upper case letters A,
B, C, & D). These
clades comprise 22 distinct DNA sequences
(haplotypes), designated
by lower case letters a, b, c,
... , s within
each Clade. Frequency of haplotypes
across WMUs can be tabulated (Table 2).
