Gas chamber and crematoria at Nazi extermination camp,
Stutthof, Poland.
Stutthof in northern Poland began as
a detention center mainly for Polish political prisoners, and
later expanded to an extermination camp. More than 65,000
persons from 23 nations were murdered there. In 2021, the
95-yr-old secretary to the Commandant was convicted of war
crimes due to her participation in the murders. Her defense was
that her window faced the wrong way so she didn't know what was
going on.
The camp is maintained as a memorial to those
murdered there. Flowers are placed by young Polish and German
students.
