Paris Conference (1971, 1975) Giemsa banding pattern
Giemsa staining of
chromosomes in the Human karyotype reveals characteristic
banding patterns that can be used
to identify individual chromosomes. Cross-hatched areas on Chromosomes
1, 9, 16, and Y
are heterochromatic
regions that are
genetically inactive. Most chromosomes also show centromeric heterochromatin.
