Origins of Greenland Cod (Gadus macrocephalus sensu lato)

Conventional interpretation of the evolution of Gadus (left) suggests Greenland Cod (Gadus ogac) are derived from the sympatric Atlantic Cod. Molecular evidence shows that Greenland Cod are substantially genetically identical to Pacific Cod (G. macrocephalus) (right). Greenland Cod are thus a geographic component of a widespread G. macrocephalus sensu lato, which have come into secondary contact with Atlantic Cod.
