Map of Yp11.3:
Zinc-Finger Protein, Y-linked (ZFY)
Sex-Recognition locus, Y-linked (SRY)
The ZFY and SRY loci map to the end of the
short (p) arm of the Y chromosome. ZFY has protein domains characteristic of a DNA binding
protein: its DNA sequence
is widely used in tracing the inheritance of paternal lineages. SRY is critical in hormonal recognition that
signals male development early in embryogenesis.
