Subsequent analysis of cloned DNA

Starting with one or more pieces of DNA of interest, amplification by in vivo cloning places the DNA in a living experimental system. First steps may include determining the DNA sequence, and  prediction of the encoded protein. Cloning in an expresson vector allows the protein to be expressed (e.g., expression of cloned insulin genes in bacterial culture). Insertion of the gene into a plant or animal system allows genes to be transferred between species.
