Emma Wedgwood (1808 - 1896) was one of "Uncle Jos"
Josiah Wedgwood's two daughters, and thus Charles' first
cousin. They had known each other since childhood. Darwin's
notes on marriage were written out in July 1838, probably
without specific reference to Emma. Charles proposed to Emma in November
1838, and they were married on January 29th, 1839. They were
married 43 years, and had ten children.
