Repeat-number variation among microsatellite alleles
The microsatellite
motif CA is
repeated between 15 & 18 times in
the three alleles shown. There are six possible
electrophoretic phenotypes, three homozygotes and three
heterozygous combinations. A microsatellite locus often
comprises several hundred motif repeats, such that
dozens of alleles are possible.
