Abstract:

My research aims to investigate the combined effects of nutrition and exercise on optimizing body composition as an integrated approach to managing chronic health conditions such as general and abdominal obesity. My research goal is 1) to better understand the underlying mechanisms involved in the crosstalk between adipose tissue and muscle mass in health and disease and 2) how they are regulated by nutrition and exercise across the lifespan. The effects of nutrients, specifically polyunsaturated fatty acids, and exercise on fat mass and lean mass will be assessed in both preclinical and clinical settings. My research involves body composition assessment using DXA, biochemical analyses, gene regulation, and omics techniques.
