Research Statement

My MA research focuses on answering the question: how may working with undocumented collections, private collectors and avocational archaeologists benefit the field of archaeology? The research I will complete to answer this question will include a literature review of Indigenous and Provincial governmental policies/legislation related to private collecting and avocational archaeology within Atlantic Canada and other jurisdictions, a survey to collect data related to different stakeholder positions on the involvement of private collectors and avocational archaeologists in the official documentation of cultural material and heritage sites, and the co-analysis and reporting of an undocumented archaeological collection with a private collector or an avocational archaeologist as a means to test options for recording private collections.
