Culture, Society & Globalization
The contemporary world is often said to be characterized by numerous inter-connections among people, cultures, economies and countries around the world – what we now call globalization. This course is about how we can understand globalization. The first half focuses on the history of global inter-connections. During the second half we explore current issues related to globalization such as capitalism, work, migration, media and ideas. The goal of the course is to develop a critical perspective with which to consider the social, cultural, political and economic changes that are transforming human relationships, livelihood strategies, and people's interpretations of today's world.
