MAKING POSITIVE CHANGE

POSITIVE CHANGE is about responding to the needs of our communities and world: listening and working with individuals and groups to learn from the past, being at the forefront of research and learning, and embracing new ways to move forward. Grenfell Campus is doing just that.

The Agricultural Climate Solutions Living Lab is an exciting partnership between Grenfell and the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture. The project goal is to learn more about soils and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Farmers and producers from rural and Indigenous communities are collaborating with governments, scientists, stakeholders and researchers. The needs and knowledge of the farmers will be considered. Testing will be conducted in places where farmers would actually operate. What’s learned on farms will be transferred to neighbouring farmers, allowing for the further development and implementation of ideas.

Grenfell’s new certificate in sustainable rural communities, offered in person and virtually, focuses on real-world strategies to support prosperity in small towns in Newfoundland and Labrador. The program focuses on social, cultural and economic approaches for rural communities, giving students the ability to maximize opportunities and build on the qualities that make their communities so special.

We’re also building opportunities for our students to use their voices to address issues and initiatives important to them. The new Grenfell Matters podcast is for students by students and provides a platform to candidly discuss issues such as equity and diversity, anti-racism, mental health and being queer. Students are advocating for change, acceptance and understanding. The podcast is available on Apple Music and Spotify.

At Grenfell, students and researchers are empowered to find creative, collaborative solutions to society’s problems.
